Erroll G. Williams, CLA

Orleans Parish Assessor

Erroll Williams has served as an Orleans Parish Assessor since 1985, when there were seven assessment districts. Due to reforms instituted since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Mr. Williams was elected as the City of New Orleans sole Assessor. In 2011, he unified the city’s assessment tax roll, now one of the state’s largest, comprised of more than 176,000 residential and commercial parcels valued at over $7.1 billion. Mr. Williams has overseen the modernization of the office, bringing transparency by instituting Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal, posting a detailed website, and offering improved public service through enhanced staff training and the institution of online and virtual services.​

Reforms and  Accomplishment.

  • Made Homestead Exemptions and Age Freezes permanent
  • Expanded open rolls period from 15 to 30 days
  • Opened satellite offices during open rolls period
  • Expanded options for citizens to seek services in person, by phone, online and virtually
  • Established a Homestead Exemption fraud line
  • Expanded special assessment “freezes” to those who meet certain military or public service criterial
  • Successfully sought a constitutional amendment to phase-in payments for homeowners whose assessments increase by more than 50% in any one quadrennial reassessment period​
  • Successfully sought to place on ballot in 2022 a constitutional amendment capping residential assessment increases in any one year by 10 percent
  • Created an updated website, nolaassessor.com, that includes the first non-profit tax directory
  • Instituted a Computerized Mass Appraisal System
  • Upgraded professional training standards for all executive level employees
  • Set up a new telephone system directly to the Assessor’s Office, streamlining the time it takes to reach staff in the office.
